The Group of Obstetric Anaesthetists in London (GOAL) aims to:
- Promote communication and exchange of information between obstetric anaesthetists in the London area.
- Encourage obstetric anaesthetic research and audit within the London area.
- Encourage best practice and consistency of obstetric anaesthetic training within the London area.
- Encourage communication between interested professionals both within and outside anaesthesia.
Membership of the group is open to all anaesthetists with an interest in obstetric anaesthesia. Trainees are encouraged to attend all meetings and actively encouraged to participate. All members will be eligible to vote at business meetings.
The Officers are elected by the members and comprise a Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer. The Officers form the planning team for all meetings, co-opting trainees and members as required.
GOAL educational/scientific meetings are held twice a year, in spring and autumn, and are currently free to attend. Each meeting is hosted by a different hospital but held at a central London location, usually the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Provisions for CME recognition will be made where appropriate.
The Treasurer maintains the bank account. Contributions are sought from trade/industry and the aim is that meetings remain free of charge. An Obstetric Anaesthetic Audit Prize will be awarded each year, funded by from the GOAL account.
Membership is currently free. The need to levy a subscription and the amount where appropriate will be reviewed annually.
